Mark Mcnairy Belmont Jackets

July 21, 2011 |

Mark-Mcnairy-Belmont-Jackets
As much as I’d like to avoid color blocking, it seems that it’s unbearable to just check out one and see if it’s actually “wearable”. Just like these Belmont Jackets by Mark Mcnairy. I’ll definitely admit the blue and purple combo is a perfect color marriage. Garbstore stocks these exclusive colorways for £245 each.

Post Overalls Mattalini Quilted Jacket

February 3, 2011 |

Post-Overalls-Mattalini-Quilted-Jacket
You may have seen the original version of the Mattalini jacket on other men’s fashion blogs but this quilted version shouldn’t miss a spot here at THESOUTHSIDER. I always love the appeal of quilted pieces, specially the diamond patterns and the puffiness that it brings. Well this jacket is beautiful and I prefer this to be worn on a simpler approach. Meaning, just the avoid layering before this and don’t be afraid to close all the buttons. Now available at Garbstore.

Calabrese "Decumano" iPad Case

December 22, 2010 |

Here’s another take to that infamous iPad case. This time Calabrese gives a shot to it, and it’s very “Calabrese” I must say. The case is made from canvas material with two leather pull zip fastenings. The inner is lined with cream leather with four elasticated corner fastenings for the iPad’s added protection while signature patch in leather with embossed logo and crest detail tops it off. The case is available at Couverture and The Garbstore.

Late last month, Couverture & The Garbstore played host to Nick Barnes and Mark Down, the creative duo behind the renowned puppet theatre company “Blind Summit”, to stage an in-store event of a compelling contemporary puppetry show. Entitled the “Tramping The Boards”, the intimate performance narrates the tragic-comic tale of an estranged son’s attempt to reconcile with his dying father – a celebrated actor – brought magically to life from a collection of black bin bags and a tartan shopping trolley.

Pictures from the said event can be seen after the click.

North Sea Clothing Sweaters

December 2, 2010 |

Here are some good sweats dropping in at Garbstore from London-based North Sea Clothing. Giving us a brief history of the brand, here are some words by Neil Starr. “The Submariner Sweater was War Office issue to the Royal Navy in both World Wars. In the 1950s motorcyclists adopted them to wear under a Barbour or Belstaff jacket to keep out the cold. They used be available from army surplus stores until about 10 years ago until original supplies “dried up”. I had many enquiries from devotees who wanted one of these classic sweaters, so decided to get them remade in the same heavy-gauge knit as the original, but improving the fit slightly as the WW2 issue was very long in the body. These hard-wearing sweaters are manufactured by a family firm in Nottinghamshire, England, using pure new wool and will last for many years.”

The offerings are named The Submariner, The Printed Submariner and The Expedition sweaters. An official sweater of the British navy back in WWII, the Submariner is reproduced exclusively at the Garbstore this season. Made from pure wool with black body and navy arms, the low-key styled turtle neck is waterproof and comes with another printed version that features stenciled NSC lettering.

Another is the Expedition, a shawl neck sweater that is available in white and navy. Made from the same wool as the Submariner, the style of the Expedition is based from a 1930s original sweater that is not identical to the previous style. The arm patch features a replica of the Sunbeam owners’ club run to Brighton which has been going for the last 71 years.

Here's another interesting collaborative news. The Garbstore has teamed up with Lewis Leathers to produce the "Flying Dominator" jacket. Basing from the 1960s Dominator style, the jacket goes with ribbed cuffs and waistband as a diversion from the original version. Leather used is a British tanned sheep nappa treated in the UK with vintage finish. For the central zipper, they have used a Lightning pin lock zipper, a commonly used zip during the late 1930s through the 1950s, and flat type of Lightning zips for the pockets. Get it here.
