Fracap Scarponcini Boots in Marro Leather

January 29, 2011 |

Fracap-Scarponcini-Boots
The grain leather is exceptional along with the construction and silhouette but one thing got me interested about this mountain boot is the red lacing that gives the classic design a lively old school feel. Handmade in Italy, the boots comes with Vibram ‘Morflex’ sole unit, padded ankle and lace to toe design. The lining is full leather while there’s an embossed Fracap branding on outer ankle and craftsman signature on the insole. Originally for the Japanese market, now you can get it at Oi Polloi.

Barbour 75th Anniversary Original Jacket

December 22, 2010 |

Known for its historic outdoor clothing and well recognized durability, Barbour’s 75 year legacy flares up with the revival of its iconic International jacket that pays homage to the brand’s role in motorcycling history. “The first Barbour International Jacket was created specifically for the 1936 International Six Day Trials, which is where the name came from. Like all the best designed stuff, the form of the original International followed the function and it became ubiquitous amongst professional motorcyclists through the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The International was even favoured by actor and King of Cool - Steve McQueen, not to mention the legendary stunt rider Bud Ekins, whose famous fence leap in The Great Escape remains etched in our minds.”

The 75th Anniversary Original Jacket is available in two finishes – olive and distressed olive. You can get it at Oi Polloi.

There's so much more from Henri Lloyd and Oi Polloi that fans all over the world would be frenzying about. From their collaborative effort in pulling a fashionable bond, here I present you the Consort and Viking Smocks sailing jackets. Martin Strzelecki, Joint CEO and son of the founder of Henri Lloyd states: "The Consort and Viking Smocks are original designs created by my father in the 1960's - the result of his passion to create new and innovative products… we feel it's the right moment to reintroduce them… with people who understand our brand and respect the product."

Made from 21st century "Bri-Nylon", the Viking is a sturdy overhead smock that is waterproof with elasticated cuffs, taped seams and a chunky Ri-Ri zip. It is available in four eye-catching colours - yellow, orange, white and royal blue. The Consort RWR jacket, on the other hand, is taken from the work of legendary Italian designer Olmes Carreti who is best known for his imaginative use of colours and contrasts. Coming in three colorways - navy, sky and lavender - what makes this more interesting is the reserved approach of the cord collar and, of course, the "Bri-Nylon" material. The contemporary delivery of these jackets have brought in slimmer and more tailored silhouette compared to the original version. Available at Oi Polloi.

The Rig Out Magazine Issue #3

September 29, 2010 |

Here's a fresh look to the 3rd/newest issue of The Rig Out magazine, something that I've been looking forward after receiving the preview shot taken by Antony Crook. Equipped with exciting and interesting topics, the oh-so-fresh issue sees the documentation of the Norwegian wilderness with record-breaking cyclist, James Bowthorpe. Also, there is the heavy Italian influence, The Paninari' of Milano '84 "setting the precedent style-wise and Oi Polloi filling in the blanks, bringing things up to date in their own unique way." Readers will expect an improved version of the magazine as it is equipped with more pages, better binding, and with nicer paper stock.

Stockists of the magazine would include Oi Polloi, Cinch and the other LevisXX stores in Paris, Milan and Tokyo. The Engineered Garments / Nepenthes store in New York, the WP Lavori stores in Florence and Milan, and online at Secret Forts and A Continuous Lean.

Henri Lloyd for Oi Polloi

September 8, 2010 |

Two Mancunian institutions - Oi Polloi and Henri Lloyd - have teamed up to reproduce some Henri Lloyd classic 1960s sailing jackets named the Viking and Consort RWR. Available in limited numbers, the jackets are exclusive to Oi Polloi.

While both the original jackets were originally intended to be worn out-at-sea (Sir Francis Chichester chose to wear them on his pioneering voyage around the world in 1966) their stand-out design meant they were appropriated as something simply to be worn out-and-about. Almost twenty years after the original release, dapper Milanese youths associated with the Paninaro scene adopted the jackets in a European take on the preppy look seen sported by American college students.

Images featured were taken by Antony Crook for the third installment of The Rig Out magazine.

Collaboration means another goody item to offer. This time, it's from Danish Norse Projects and Manchester's Oi Polloi creating a parka for the crappy climates. Taking inspirations from mid to late 70s and a design from legendary British mountaineer Chris Bonington, the parka is impressively done with British Millerain waxed cotton fabric in 2 layers and with Primaloft insulation. Much more, the parka goes with Talon zippers, wrist gators and embroidered Norse x Oi Polloi scout patch. Get it here.

Sperry Top-Sider Navy Seamate Shoes

February 28, 2010 |

As the blueprint of American nautical footwear, Sperry commemorates their 75th anniversary with a reproduction of Seamate shoes. Made in high quality canvas, the deck style is genuinely hand-sewn in Tru-Moc construction. Summing up the details, the shoe goes with "360 lacing system, rust proof eyelets, shock absorbing EVA heel cup for added comfort, and non-marking, rubber outsole with razor-cut wave-siping for ultimate dry/ wet traction." Now available at Oi Polloi.

This Rambler shoe from Clarks is derived from an archive design during the 70's with a modernization and reintroduction of the Polyveldt construction. Coming in soft snuffed sand leather, the chocolate brown contrast seen on stitching and sole gives an outstanding presence on the overall look. Oi Polloi has it.
