Assembly New York Spring 2012 Lookbook by Margo Ducharme

Assembly New York sets a mood that’s typically for the effortless guys. Guys who just pull out clothes from their closet and look unimaginably dapper are those I could perfectly see wearing this beautiful, well executed and relax Spring 2012 collection. Strong points of the collection go to the lightweight arena, where pocketed rolled up shirts paired with cut-to-slim pants and leather boots sets the new urban elegance.

René Gurskov Spring 2012 Collection

Talk about being spirited and having a strong personality, this interesting collection by René Gurskov seems to have absorbed tons of youthfulness and contemporary romanticism to justify the new men’s clothing – the hybrid clothing. With the inspiration taken from BBC’s endless costume dramas where it talked about love, class, money, and sex, Gurskov have gone to being relax this season as pastel colours in doodle patterns, fringes and lace have blended well with what school uniforms and twisted sportswear should be in this modern time.

[Vimeo Corner] Urban the Burden 2012 S/S Collection

Turkish menswear brand Urban the Burden started as a final project of fashion design student Esra Dandin, who eventually got her degree with honors at Istanbul’s Işık University. The label is highly influenced by “people who are longing for the roots, embracing the nature but can't live without the urban culture.” Designing clothes that are effortlessly worn by style-conscious people who consider contemporary, timeless, functional and genuine designs when it comes to fashion preference, Urban the Burden is completed with smart details, and materials that are suited to everyday occasions.

For its Spring/Summer 2012 collection, the brand draws its inspiration from authentic hand-woven rug patterns. These patterns are used to symbolize eternity, freedom, bravery, abundance, and brotherhood which were the cultural aspects of ancient nomad culture. Although there are only a few but selected menswear pieces that were shown on the video and imagery, the wardrobe staples are predominantly impressive and pretty much wearable and functional.

Olivier Borde presents his Spring/Summer 2012 collection that’s greatly influenced by the skater/surf punk culture that reverberated in the late 1970s and through the 1980s in California and Australia. Noticing a bit less intricacy and elaborateness to design detail, this collection however has an ideal variety of casual pieces that’s pretty much of a streetwear clothing. The thing here is that no one will turn down on this once they hit the rack next year.

Kris Van Assche sees another agreeable path that is for Dior Homme’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. His penchant for asymmetric cuts, minimalism, and black & white are felt mostly to this collection but he has added shades of beige and blue to accentuate what this season is all about – cool and comfy. Trimmed to perfection with a tweak of luxury and avant-garde notion, this collection is just another successful performance brought to us by the Belgian designer.

Swedish label Acne puts a statement for vintage styled clothing this season as they gear up for retro vibe and toned down palettes. Typically dressing up men for a modest but smart clothing, the trend for Acne this season has become more comfortable and practically casual. Pieces such as shawl collars, fine tailored trousers, and leather loafers are among the few that stood out from the collection.

From the recently hyped Milan fashion week activities comes this contemporary and vivacious collection from Italian designer Daniele Alessandrini. Focusing on the contrast ideas of color blocking that has moved behind the supposedly individuality of each pieces, the eruption of modernity has made a fair share to highlight tailoring and flamboyant palettes. Last season, DVN paraded sophisticated modern lads who were romantic in attitude but superstar in name. He channeled David Bowie through his mannequins and they were really chic lads. But just recently, Dries had his game face on with the navy blue palette. Yup, these are deep toned blues that are always mysterious but forever wearable. The main color is shocked with the ultra fascinating bolds of strong colors and thick stripe prints that have made a contemporary statement yet preserved that ideology that Dries is still on the prints.
