Raf-Simons-Transmission-1
Raf Simons is curating an event in collaboration with Mecedes-Benz titled “Transmission 1” and Hero Magazine recently had a good quick chat with the Belgian designer himself. This event is a 3 day multi-disciplinary festival which takes place in Berlin from 15th of July till 17th. Invited guests are people coming in from various different creative fields which include artists Peter Saville and Peter De Potter; writer, editor and creative director Jo-Ann Furniss, Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, and choreographer Michael Clark, just to name a few.

"For me, Transmission 1 is a very exciting project as it's unexpected and not so logical," Raf pinpoints. "Maybe it's not what people would want me to do and it's what they can criticise – and that's why I find it interesting. It's almost more interesting at this stage [of my career] to do something like this than to curate some major art show for a respected museum. This is more challenging. And it's supposed to entertain people.

In time for this season’s cold madness, here’s a tailored piece that just got in at Por Vocacao. Arriving in Raf Simons’ signature cut and tailoring, this double breasted jacket is made from blue heavy wool in midnight blue color. Raf Simons Heavyweight Velcro Parker Jacket

October 13, 2010 |

This one's a heavyweight on the loose. Seen on a puffy two-toned approach, this jacket from Raf Simons is a testament to the outerwear evolution. It's modern and really big. Made from 67% cotton and 33% poliuretano, this piece is "detailed with a Velcro adjustable collar and waist panels as well a Velcro fastening placket that covers the zip." While you're on the process of absorbing how awesome this one is, think again, there's the detachable drawstring hood that transforms it into a cool "astronaut-ish" look. Available here.

It's official, we're not painted black anymore. The usual monochromatic sharp tailoring from Jil Sander have gone a long way to produce the best colorful pieces this season. Say bright yellow trousers paired with the hottest pink in town. Could there be enough reason to get an attention? Garments that have gone through precise tailoring are now dipped with sever flamboyancy, and this is a good movement for the brand.

Highlights: Sharp techno coats, slim suits, short shorts and all bright graphic prints.

This is why I look forward every season on Raf Simons' creative ideas. It gives me the realization that function can always be well paired with advance styling to produce new images of masculinity. And this one's a representation to that. "Military style jacket with a grey paneled body and black arms and a rain guard detail. Finished with a covered button placket and zip up front pockets, this jacket is fully lined." Available at Oki-Ni.

Raf Simons Suit with Neoprene Arms

November 14, 2009 |

Here's an interesting jacket from Raf Simons that, again, entertained me so much but surely a risky piece when it comes to formal events. Coming in with a classic slim line combined with a blue neoprene fabric seen on sleeves, this jacket is something everyone should be looking at. Continuing on details, "this is a single button single breast jacket with body darts for a slim fit and a ‘mirror shard’ detail stitched under the lapel".

Available at Oki-Ni.

Raf Simons Neoprene Sleeve Shirts

October 27, 2009 |

(Blue & Camel Neoprene Sleeve Shirt)

Classic shirts for Raf Simons may not be classic anymore, thanks to his idea of using Neoprene, a key fabric from his A/W 2009 collection, ultra-contemporary slim fit styling now arises. The Neoprene on the shirt runs the full length of the arms and across the shoulders adding some twist to the white cotton fabric. As for the colors, the vibrant blue colorway is delectable but the use of camel like color on sleeves on the other hand made the white shirt looked like a sleeveless one. Now available at Oki-Ni.

From the extension of the existing Fred Perry x Raf Simons collaboration comes the contemporary interpretation of Fred Perry's outfits worn back in 1947. Producing wearable pieces that will surely make you feel like the legendary British tennis player, the capsule collection offers black single button jacket, a grey flannel trouser, a white shirt, an ivory cable knit jumper and slipover, tie, Fred Perry M1 shirt and a black and white brogue version, all available at Oki-Ni.

Focusing on the black and white brogue, the sporty monochrome shoe has 16 leaf laurel embroidered detail in white on outer side. A great reinvention of what has been done and used before, this is truly a versatile rendition that can be used anywhere and anytime.

Belgian designer, artist and writer Peter De Potter has done some several works with Raf Simons for the past couple of seasons working on visuals as well as prints. But with their continuous collaboration, they teamed up once again in producing these two sharp t-shirts, the ‘That Was Then But This Is Now’ and the ‘ Non-Stop’ t-shirts. With words and boots featured on different shirts, these wondeful product of collaboration are now available at Oki-Ni.

Raf Simons Multicolor Sneakers

August 13, 2009 |

As for this high top velcro sneaker, it goes to show that being vibrant is always interesting. Coming in with a combination of pink/brown/black/blue with contrasting white outlines, the lively colors are ironic to the previous release of velcro sneakers from Raf Simons. Now available at Colette.

Here's an outstanding release from Raf Simons' F/W 2009 footwear collection. With same silhouette and interesting mix of leather, vulcanized rubber and neoprene, the Astro Boot goes flashy with the use of silver leather for zip up pocket behind. As for the collaboration with Asics, the running shoe has eye popping details with neon colors contrary to the black domination. The detachable ankle sleeve, made from neoprene nylon, surely is even more interesting.

Now available at Oki-Ni.
