Raf-Simons-Transmission-1
Raf Simons is curating an event in collaboration with Mecedes-Benz titled “Transmission 1” and Hero Magazine recently had a good quick chat with the Belgian designer himself. This event is a 3 day multi-disciplinary festival which takes place in Berlin from 15th of July till 17th. Invited guests are people coming in from various different creative fields which include artists Peter Saville and Peter De Potter; writer, editor and creative director Jo-Ann Furniss, Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, and choreographer Michael Clark, just to name a few.

"For me, Transmission 1 is a very exciting project as it's unexpected and not so logical," Raf pinpoints. "Maybe it's not what people would want me to do and it's what they can criticise – and that's why I find it interesting. It's almost more interesting at this stage [of my career] to do something like this than to curate some major art show for a respected museum. This is more challenging. And it's supposed to entertain people.

Via Selectism.

My favorite Belgian designer Dries Van Noten was the main man for Hint's "One Sentence or Less" interview. A direct to the point interview where there's no room for second thoughts or so, Dries Van Noten simply answered questions that are mostly not related to fashion. Check it out here.

Oki-Ni's very own Beth Vincent and photographer Ben Benoliel went up to visit award winning craftswoman Margo Selby in her Bloomsbury studio. With topics leading them to wonderful conversation, this interview got them talking about her renowned textile designs, weaving discipline, and her collaboration with London label The Old Curiosity Shop which you can actually avail here.

I guess what translates into your fashion and interiors collaborations is a real respect for the craftsmanship involved in the processes of your work. Is there someone you have in mind when you design?
I think there are lots of different people who appreciate what I do, but yes there’s definitely a connection between people who appreciate craft and also people who have a love of colour and who want to stand out and the people who are drawn to what I do.

Oki-Ni's John Skelton talks to London based designer Omar Kashoura as part of their 'New Faces of Menswear' feature. The interview went well as John Skelton opened up some topics regarding his inspirations, and aspirations plus his opinions regarding the importance of supporting the new talented menswear designers. More about his personal views, I love this part of the interview:

John Skelton | As a designer do you set out with the intention of creating a brand?

Omar Kashoura | I think at the beginning you set out to become a brand, to create a brand but after 2 seasons you're like 'forget the brand, I want to make money!'. As a designer, to see that your line is going to turn into a big brand is quite a distant thing and a bit of a dream really. But for me personally, quality is the most important thing. You can tell when the product has been made in an Italian mill, and that's when it becomes a brand. That's more what I want to happen- to be supported by one of these mills and have them produce everything from sample to production. I am very involved in the sample process, I do a lot of sewing myself and I enjoy it but it does get really frustrating trying to maintain quality and still keep up with demands of being a young designer.

Our fashionable friends over Style Salvage caught up a great interview with Garbstore main man Ian Paley. Bringing in topics surrounding Garbstore, Ian Paley shares some worthy infos regarding developments and more.

SS: How do you see the brand developing over the next couple of years?
Ian Paley: I like the idea of splintering ideas, collaborations these days are two a penny, but working with new companies and like minded folks is a real joy and we are constantly looking at new projects that are different to what people would expect us to do. We try and collaborate with people. I'm really excited about some new stuff in the pipeline and over the next few years there are a few big changes planned..

The guys over Debonair Magazine talks to TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie. Mycoskie's endeavor with the shoe brand started after noticing some children in Argentina had no shoes to protect their feet. Gearing up with passion for helping and creating fashionable slip-ons, TOMS success is still raging up and this feature will give us more insight about brand name, future and even Blake's opinion about random stuffs.

When I first started TOMS, I called it the “Shoes for Tomorrow” Project. “Tomorrow” wouldn’t fit on the tag, so I shortened it to TOMS.

The premiere online store for men's fashion and lifestyle, Oki-Ni, have chosen 8 New Faces of Menswear having some exclusive interviews with the new and outstanding designers that will surely take men's fashion by storm. Interviewed by Oki-Ni's creative director John Skelton and photographed by their in house photographer Ben Benoliel, "it" designers Martine Rose, Christopher Shannon, Satyenkumar, Odeur, Lou Dalton, Kling by Kling, Mr.Hare and Hederus are featured with their collections being offered over the online store. "We've bought these brands because we believe in what they're offering. Their collections stand up to those produced by more established designers but at the present time we feel no one in the industry is giving them the platform they deserve to showcase their talent. We are hoping that this feature and the issues continuously raised in the series of interviews will create more awareness (and ultimately support) towards the challenges that all new menswear designers are facing."

Dazed Digital interviews Jun Takahashi and Nigo talk about their retail venture NOWHERE. Being the only UK stockist for A Bathing Ape, the pop up store was a serious hit around London bringing their brand's enthusiasts flock in to Dover Street Market's basement. The store also boasts LAST ORGY 2, the re-edition of first collection that the two Japanese fashion icons designed together. With some serious talks and chitchats, the two were also asked about how the success of their brands affected their position and some future works.

Dazed Digital: It’s been almost 15 years since you set up NOWHERE in Tokyo’s Harajuku area. What was the initial idea behind it?
Jun Takahashi: The idea was that by separating the small space of the store into two with wire netting, we wanted to express two totally different worlds of interests and of the way of thinking.
Nigo: I don’t think there was an idea. We were just doing what we felt like doing. I don’t think we needed to think about it that much.
